Overview................

Since its founding in 1998 by John Putnam, PLS, Orion GPS, Inc has been successfully providing a full scope of survey services to the design and mapping community. Orion specializes in control and topographic surveys with a goal of providing highly accurate control for all types of projects. These projects have ranged in size and complexity from pre-design services for a commercial site to photo control for an interstate pipeline. Prior to founding Orion GPS John worked for the Defense Mapping Agency where he was a photogrammetrist and GIS specialist. He also worked as a project surveyor for a large northwest engineering firm where gained experience in all aspects of property, design, and construction surveying services. Orion GPS continues to build upon John’s solid background, developing efficient and accurate field and office operations.
 

As a recognized expert in the field of GPS Orion excels at providing clients with GPS control for both traditional and photogrammetric mapping projects as well as airborne GPS control for small scale mapping projects. On projects where traditional survey methods are appropriate Orion provides high caliber control with the use of modern robotic total stations. Real time kinematic (RTK) GPS receivers and robotic total stations allow a single surveyor to rapidly collect accurate topographic data covering large areas. Robotic total stations are used for smaller projects, projects requiring greater accuracy than RTK, and those areas where GPS coverage is simply unavailable. For the collection of GIS data Orion uses mapping grade GPS receivers.
 

Utilizing the latest in survey technology Orion GPS is capable of efficiently performing most surveys with a single person, adding personnel as the situation demands. Orion’s proven ability to quickly mobilize multiple field crews and office operations on short notice, with all of the skills and equipment required, allow an immediate response to the needs of the most complex projects. A history of successful working relationships with surveying firms covering the west coast make a rapid deployment of crews to far flung locations possible. Orion takes a creative approach to develop the most economically feasible solution to every project, no matter its size or complexity.
